NEWS AND EVENTSCOUNTRIES OF ACCREDITATIONZAMBIA/CANADA BILATERAL RELATIONS Diplomatic relations between Canada and Zambia were established in 1966. In Zambia, Canada is represented by the Canadian High Commission in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Canada also has an Office of the High Commission in Lusaka, Zambia. Zambia is represented in Canada by a High Commission in Ottawa. Canada enjoys good bilateral relations with Zambia. Canada continues to partner with Zambia in efforts to achieve its Millennium Development Goals; to improve business opportunities, market intelligence and investment protection for Canadian firms; to encourage the development of Zambia's positive political and economic performance; and to encourage Zambia to continue its growing role in regional, pan-African and global forums. ZAMBIA/TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO BILATERAL RELATIONS Zambia and Trinidad and Tobago enjoy warm and cordial relations which stem from a common historical background and cultural heritage. The two countries are members of the Commonwealth, the UN and NAM. Zambia and Trinidad and Tobago have established diplomatic relations on a non-residential basis with Zambia's interests being looked after by its High Commissioner to Canada and Trinidad and Tobago by its High Commissioner to South Africa. In April, 1995, Zambia's second Republican President Dr. F.T.J. Chiluba visited the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago among other Caribbean Islands. This visit saw the signing of two agreements, one in culture and the other in economic, scientific and technical cooperation. ZAMBIA/CUBA BILATERAL RELATIONS Zambia and Cuba relations date back as far as 1964, when Zambia got its Independence. Zambia has, had high level visits to Cuba, from former President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda in 1975 and the second one by also by former President Fredrick Chiluba in 1994. Most recently by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Zambia, Dr. Rupiah Banda in 2009. Zambia and Cuba have signed a number of bilateral agreements in many areas of cooperation such as Health, Education, Agriculture and many others. ZAMBIA/JAMAICA BILATERAL RELATIONS Zambia has continued enjoying good diplomatic relations with Jamaica. Both countries share common values and are members of the Commonwealth Countries, Non Aligned Movement (NAM) and United Nations (UN). Over the years, the relations between the two countries have remained warm and cordial. High level visits of the Zambian leaders to Jamaica have sustained these good relations. At the invitation of the Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Rt. Hon. P.J. Patterson, the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Frederick J.T Chiluba, paid a State visit to Jamaica from March 31 to April 4, 1995. A significant number of bilateral agreements have been signed by the two countries which include agreements on Economic, Scientific and Technical cooperation. ZAMBIA/BAHAMAS BILATERAL RELATIONS Zambia and the Bahamas have a common historical fact of having been British territories and are members of the Commonwealth, the United Nations (UN) and the African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States. The two countries established and maintain diplomatic relations on non-residential basis. Zambia's High Commissioner to Canada is also accredited to the Bahamas while Bahamas Permanent Representative to the UN is also accredited to Zambia. Since 1974, Zambia and the Bahamas have supported each other in International fora. The two countries have recently exchanged high level visits at the head and parliamentary levels. The former President Dr. Kaunda visited the Bahamas during his tenure of office.
